STOTT-Certified Clinical Pilates Specialist & Physical Therapist w/ 30+ Yrs of Movement-Based Rehabilitation

Movement is the through-line of Cheryl Smith’s clinical practice. She has been a physical therapist for more than 30 years, a graduate of the University of Puget Sound, and her career has been built around a single conviction: rehabilitation works best when patients learn to move well — with efficiency and precision, not just compensation. That philosophy is what pulled her toward Clinical Pilates as a treatment tool more than a decade ago, and it’s what shapes how she works with patients today — across orthopedic injuries, post-surgical recovery, sports rehabilitation, and the populations whose recovery depends on getting movement patterns right.

Cheryl is certified through STOTT Pilates®, the contemporary, anatomically-grounded Pilates methodology used in clinical rehabilitation settings worldwide. She earned her STOTT certification more than ten years ago and has stayed actively engaged in annual continuing education ever since, using the methodology to support patients recovering from sports injuries, orthopedic and neurological conditions, and post-surgical rehabilitation. Her broader training also includes yoga, Barre, manual therapy, and the Graston Technique. She is also active in the broader Pilates community across the Spokane area and North Idaho — both as a practitioner and as a professional staying connected to how the field continues to evolve.

The patients Cheryl has worked with span a remarkable range: dancers, semi-pro golfers, tennis players, runners, pre- and post-natal patients, and people working through Parkinson’s, oncology recovery, osteoporosis and osteopenia, postural dysfunctions, and core stabilization needs.

Beliefs Behind My Therapeutic Approach

“To move with grace and ease, balanced in body, mind, and spirit — that’s what good rehabilitation looks like. The body that moves well doesn’t just heal faster. It stays healed longer.”

WHO I HELP

Built for Patients Who Want to Move Well Again

The patients I see most often are the ones whose recovery depends on more than just resolving pain — they want to move with confidence again, whether that’s returning to a sport, navigating pregnancy and postpartum recovery, managing osteoporosis, or rebuilding after surgery. My work uses Clinical Pilates and movement-based therapy to give the body honest, progressive, intelligent loading. Done well, that’s what makes recovery stick.
