Shauna Burchett
Occupational Therapist & Founder of Synergy Healthcare
Most clinic owners either keep treating until they retire or hand the place off and disappear. Shauna Burchett did neither. She founded Synergy Healthcare in 1998, stepped back from direct patient care, and remained the standard-bearer. Her work now is training the current clinical team and protecting the depth of work the practice was built around.
She graduated from the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine in 1993 with a degree in Occupational Therapy. Her early career was spent in traumatic brain injury rehabilitation and skilled nursing — long-term and short-term geriatric work that shaped how she thinks about recovery: slow, layered, and deeply individual.
Over the twenty-plus years that followed, she built Synergy around a stack of manual therapies most Spokane clinics never touched. Craniosacral Therapy from the Upledger Institute. Visceral Manipulation and Neural Manipulation from the Barral Institute. Lymphatic drainage work. Osteopathic-lineage hands-on therapy that takes years to learn properly and longer to do well. The current Synergy team (Kathryn Matsubuchi, Janelle Axtell, and Robyn Moug, among them) carries that toolkit forward today, with a meaningful portion of their craniosacral training delivered in-house by Shauna.
Beliefs Behind My Therapeutic Approach
“Healing rarely fails because of missing technique. It fails because no one listened long enough to find out what was actually wrong.”

The Lineage
The Standard This Clinic Was Built On
Shauna’s clinical hours are behind her. The training isn’t. A meaningful share of the craniosacral, visceral, and neural work delivered at Synergy today was taught in-house, by her, to the team that now carries it forward. That’s the continuity she’s most proud of.
